An open work permit is a work permit that is not job-specific. Because it is not job-specific, you will NOT NEED the following when you apply for your work permit and can work for any Canadian company without having an employment contract with a positive LMIA.
The following categories are eligible to apply for an open work permit.
- Members of the spouse or common law partner in Canada.
- Spouses or common law partners of foreign students at public post-secondary schools
- Person who has support at all.
- Person who has a temporary resident permit (TRP) that is valid for at least six months
- People who are refugee referred to the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) protection OR their claim rejected and cannot be deported from Canada.
- Professional athletes who are working for a Canadian team
- Family members of a foreign representative; and members of a foreign military member who is working in Canada.

Not work for an employer in a business where there are reasonable grounds to suspect a risk of sexual exploitation of some workers, specifically the strip clubs, massage parlors, and escort agencies, leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay.
